WEESACS

Scottish Creator based in Cornwall

I am a Scottish-born multidisciplinary artist based, Penryn, Cornwall. Drawing on both traditional craft techniques and industrial processes, I produce conceptual works that often carry a functional quality. Rooted in a sensitivity to material and place, my practice favours reclaimed and locally sourced resources, reflecting a conscious effort lower my ‘our’ carbonfoot print, working with and for the natural environment, rather than against it.

My work responds to my first point of inspiration, my relationship with the surrounding landscape and the comparison to the rolling hills of the Scottish Lowlands where I
spent my childhood, exploring. With a practical mindset and a strong determination to create, I aim to fashion striking bodies of work which display issues that I feel passionate about. I am interested in retracing humankind's connection to the ecosystem that surrounds us, inviting audiences to re-engage with wildlife, and highlighting the importance of nature for our future and how removed contemporary life has become from the ecosystems that sustain it.

Play remains central to my process. Working with a kind of intuitive freedom, I allow ideas to develop organically, through the relationship that evolves with the material at hand.
